Summary

If you could have any animal's front teeth, whose would you choose?

WHAT IF YOU HAD ANIMAL TEETH? takes children on a fun, informative, and imaginative journey as they explore what it would be like if their own front teeth were replaced by those of a different animal。 Featuring a dozen animals (beaver, great white shark, narwhal, elephant, rattlesnake, naked mole rat, hippopotamus, crocodile, and more), this book explores how different teeth are especially adapted for an animal's survival。 At the end of the book, children will discover why their own teeth are just right for them。 And they'll also get a friendly reminder to take good care of their teeth, because they're the only teeth they'll ever have。 Each spread features a photograph of the animal using its specialized teeth on the left and a humorous illustrated image of a child using that animal's teeth on the right。

"What If You Had Animal Teeth!?" is the best kind of informational text for students because it is both informational and interesting。 It allows students to think about animal adaptations as if they belonged to themselves and to think about how they would use certain amazing animal teeth。 Would they chew through their textbook like a beaver, lift a car like an elephant could with its tusks, or use them like scissors for gift wrapping like a bat could? If I taught science, I would use this book b "What If You Had Animal Teeth!?" is the best kind of informational text for students because it is both informational and interesting。 It allows students to think about animal adaptations as if they belonged to themselves and to think about how they would use certain amazing animal teeth。 Would they chew through their textbook like a beaver, lift a car like an elephant could with its tusks, or use them like scissors for gift wrapping like a bat could? I like this series, and I didn’t dislike this book, but it’s definitely my least favorite so far。 It is nonfiction and shares different facts about animal teeth。 I felt that this book shared less about what you could do with each tooth than the others。 I felt it just shared more facts there。 This book could be read to any elementary grade, but I would change the activity I did with them。 Many different crafts and drawings could be done。 Students could write about which tooth they would like and I like this series, and I didn’t dislike this book, but it’s definitely my least favorite so far。 It is nonfiction and shares different facts about animal teeth。 I felt that this book shared less about what you could do with each tooth than the others。 I felt it just shared more facts there。 This book could be read to any elementary grade, but I would change the activity I did with them。 Many different crafts and drawings could be done。 Students could write about which tooth they would like and why。 Older kids could research an animal not in the book and create their own entry about what it would be like to have their tooth/facts。Grades: K-3 。。。more

I thought the information in this book was excellent, especially the way in which human teeth were discussed at the end。 However, I'm just not a fan of the illustrations, finding them a bit creepy! It is such a fun way for kids to learn about animals, nature, and science。 It breaks away from the traditional National Geographic book that just lists information about an animal。 Sandra Markle peeks into the children's imagination and does it completely differently。 Instead of "this is the type of teeth this animal has", she asks, "what if you had these teeth?"In class uses- I would use this book in a science unit。 It is a fun way to break away from the traditional textbook。 I would read the story and ask the students to pick out 3 facts they remember。 After, share the facts with the class as a whole! 。。。more

This is an amazing book to have in the classroom。 Sandra Markel starts the story out with a child who loses their front two teeth and poses the question about what would happen if animal teeth grew in instead。 This part of the story alone leads the child to start to use their wildest sense of imagination。 Then she goes through many animals telling what each animal uses their teeth for and how it could relate to the child's life。 For example, shark have many rows of teeth so it showed the young g This is an amazing book to have in the classroom。 Sandra Markel starts the story out with a child who loses their front two teeth and poses the question about what would happen if animal teeth grew in instead。 This part of the story alone leads the child to start to use their wildest sense of imagination。 Then she goes through many animals telling what each animal uses their teeth for and how it could relate to the child's life。 For example, shark have many rows of teeth so it showed the young girl thinking about how much money she would gain from losing her teeth so often。 Under each explanation of what their teeth are like and used for, there is a fact from each animal as well, diving even deeper into what they use their teeth for。The illustrations, done by Howard McWilliam, were absolutely amazing as well。 Each page had the illustration of the child with the animal teeth on the right。 They also used real pictures of the animal on the left side of the page where it explained what they used the teeth for and the special fact。 I think integrating the actual photos and the illustrations are a great idea。 Seeing the real animal ties back to what the children are reading is an actual fact about real animals。 Illustrations throughout the whole thing can lead to them forgetting this fact。 I would use this story when we are talking about animals and their different parts of their bodies and what separate us from them。 I could also use it to do a writing prompt for creative writing and have them decide which animal they want to be with the teeth and what they would do with those teeth for a day。 There are many different ways to use this book and other informational books, and I plan on keeping plenty of them in my classroom。 。。。more

If you could have any animal's front teeth, whose would you choose? If you chose an elephant's, you could dig holes and pull up tree roots。 If you had a beaver's, you'd have orange teeth! And if you had a naked mole rat's set of teeth, you could move each one separately, like chopsticks! The animal kingdom has lots of cool teeth, but yours are pretty awesome, too! This book is a great informational book for younger students。 Not only does it relate to some of the life experiences that are happening to young students (losing baby teeth), but it also helps teach students about the differences in animal teeth。 This book is silly for kids, but it teaches them about different animal characteristics in a fun and interactive way。 This would be fun to read to a class, or to incorporate into a lesson about hygiene or wild life。

I love how the author gave visuals of what it would be like for students if they were to have animal teeth。 From fangs to tusks, students got both verbal and visual ideas of what it would be like to live with certain types of animal teeth。 The illustrations are genius too and super engaging, even for me an adult!

This story creates some great talking points from the illustrations and facts presented and does a great job keeping children immersed。 I was pleased to see diversity illustrated in this book through both the drawings of children and scenarios they're in (wheelchair, for example)。 There were some great plugs about proper dental hygiene as well, which could make this a fun little addition to a pediatric dental office。 This book is not a movie, but it is part of a collection which would be hilarious to see in animation! 。。。more

This book is very educational for children because it shows them a bunch of varying types of teeth that animals have。 Some of the animals shown are beavers, sharks, elephants, snakes, naked mole rats, vampire bats, camels, and others。 The book is funny because it shows the teeth drawn on kids while giving factual information。 This is a series that has other books like animal ears and animal eyes etc。
